Technical Requirements

Headphones are required for Labs and classrooms where one or more CAL Tutors are speaking spelling Words.

Windows

• Intel® Pentium® or compatible 400 MHz processor
• 128 Megabytes of RAM
• 1 Gigabyte of available hard-disk space
• Microsoft® Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows NT® 4.0 with Service Pack 6, Windows 2000 with Service Pack 2, Windows XP Professional or Home Edition, Windows XP
• Apple QuickTime Player 5.0 or higher (download QuickTime Player from Apple Computer at http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/)
• Video adapter- minimum 800x600 screen resolution, minimum 16 bit color
• Windows compatible sound card with speakers or headphones
• Optional microphone for recording words with built-in Recording Studio
• Optional printer for printing reports and spelling lists
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01, 5.5, 6.0, or 6.1
• Recommended Microsoft DirectX 8.1 or higher (download the DirectX software at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx)

Macintosh

• A Macintosh with PowerPC processor or a PC with at least 400 MHz
• 128 Megabytes of RAM (OS 9 will work with 64 MB physical memory with Virtual Memory turned on with a setting of at least 128 MB)
• Mac OS “classic” 8.1-9.2.x or Mac OS X 10.1 or higher
• 1 Gigabyte of available hard-disk space
• Apple QuickTime Player 5.0 or higher (download the QuickTime Player from Apple Computer at http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/)
• Sound card and speakers or headphones
• Optional microphone for recording words with built-in Recording Studio
